Syllabus 2010

Piano Repertoire
Performers will be required to present three pieces of contrasting style and period. Period should span at least two centuries.

Class No. 1 - Up to and including Junior Cert Students.

Time Limit 10 minutes maximum.
Entry Fee €25

Class No. 2 - Up to and including Leaving Cert Students.

Time Limit 15 minutes maximum
Entry Fee €25

Cork County Council Arts Award
Bursary will be awarded for further tuition to the value of €500. Competition is open to instrumentalists and singers. Performers will be required to present an advanced recital programme of own choice.

Class No. 3 - Age 16 and over.
Time limit 20 minutes maximum
Entry Fee €40

Adult Choral CompetitionIn each case choirs are required to sing two contrasting pieces. Midleton Town council €100 bursary awarded to best adult choir. Winners will be announced at conclusion of competitions on Saturday evening.

Class No. 4 - Adult Male Voice

Entry fee €50
Class No. 5 - Adult Female Voice
Entry fee €50

Class No. 6 - Adult Mixed Voice
Entry fee €50

Rules and Conditions

Please note: Cheques for entry fees should be made payable to
Féile an tSamhraidh

1 Entries should be submitted by post and accompanied by full fee.

2 Entries must reach 68 Rosary Place, Midleton by Friday April 2nd 2010

3 A first prize-winning item may not be entered in whole or part in the following year’s feis.

4 A copy of the work to be performed must be handed to the adjudicator with Candidates number only. The adjudicator may not be approached before or during a competition.

5 There are no official accompanists available at Féile an tSamhraidh this year. Performers are advised to make private arrangements for same (accompanists cannot be expected to provide their service free of charge).

6 A performer must check in before his/her competition begins and must present himself/herself on stage in correct order.

7 First prize will not be awarded unless a sufficiently high standard has been reached.

8 Candidate’s marks and Adjudicator’s notes will b supplied at the end of each class.

9The organising committee reserves the right to amalgamate or subdivide competitions

10 Time limits will be strictly adhered to and penalizing points will results if time is exceeded

11 Tape recorders, video recorders and cameras are not permitted during any competition

12 The decision of the Adjudicators shall in all cases be decisive as to merit. In all other matters, the decision of the Organising Committee is final and the interpretation of the rules subject to it alone.

13 Performers are reminded of copyright and therefore should avoid, if possible, photocopies.

Overall Awards and Bursaries

OVERALL AWARDS

For 2010 the bursaries available are;

Cork County Council Bursary for further tuition, Class 3
Bursary awarded to the winner of an advanced recital competition open to instrumentalists and singers. Past winners have used the bursary for studies in Ireland and abroad. If suitable, tuition at London College of Music, Thames Valley University can be arranged.

Midleton Town Council Bursary, Classes 4 to 6

Welcome

Welcome to Feile an tSamhraidh

Féile an tSamhraidh is a compeitive music festival which runs over a weekend in May in the town of Midleton, East Cork. We provide a platform for amateur performance in music with an educational element from professional adjudicators. The festival is run by a voluntary committee.

Féile an tSamhraidh 2010

Féile an tSamhraidh 2010 will take place on the 8th May.

The scope of the festival is reduced this year. The full range of competitions will be running in 2011. It is our intention to have a day of musical excellence and we very much want to encourage people to come and listen to the performances on the day. For an entry form please email the address below.
